Senior Software Engineer (Java)

Location: Must be based in Chicago, Illinois, United States. Relocation assistance is not available. Visa sponsorship is available for eligible applicants.

Salary: $112,710–$183,140 per year.

What you will do

• Design and develop backend RESTful API web services using microservices architecture.
• Build and deploy new functionality for an AWS-hosted digital platform.
• Lead development across cross-functional Agile project teams.
• Mentor developers, oversee support groups, and conduct code reviews.
• Resolve complex application and technical problems while maintaining software quality.
• Create structured code, program documentation, operations documentation, and user guides.

Requirements

• Experience producing software products or systems aligned with product requirements.
• Knowledge of software product design and architecture.
• Experience with Java 17 or higher and Spring Boot RESTful API development.
• Experience deploying and maintaining software on public cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
• Experience with message streaming, databases, and CI/CD tools.
• Strong decision-making, critical-thinking, and communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with AWS Kinesis, SQS, SNS, Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, or Azure Event Hub.
• Experience with Aurora, RDS, DynamoDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, Elasticsearch, MongoDB, Cassandra, or Redis.
• Experience with Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or GoCD.
• Experience working in an Agile framework, ideally Scrum.
