Chemistry Curator - Chemical Biology Services

Location: Hinxton, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom; flexible working arrangements include hybrid working patterns.

Salary: From £3,452.05 per month after tax, plus family-related financial benefits; personal pension and insurance contributions excluded.

What you will do

• Curate chemical structures, ontology terms, and associated data in the ChEBI database.
• Monitor monthly releases and routine status notifications, resolving issues with technical and software colleagues.
• Guide improvements to annotation tools, data access, storage, and representation.
• Collaborate with the MetaboLights team on bulk submissions and liaise with partner databases including Rhea, GO, and IEDB.
• Contribute to grant applications, database publications, training, user support, and conference presentations.

Requirements

• PhD or equivalent experience in chemistry or biochemistry.
• Ability to critically assess chemical structures.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong verbal and presentation skills.
• Ability to collaborate with technical experts and scientists to solve practical problems.
• Ability to work in or regularly attend the Hinxton, Cambridgeshire location under the available hybrid arrangement.

Nice to have

• Experience with chemical or biological data curation and bioinformatics databases.
• Knowledge of ontologies.
• Experience querying relational databases with SQL.
• Knowledge of Python scripting.
