TL;DR
Management Accountant (Xero/Payroll): Delivering accurate management accounts, payroll, VAT returns, reconciliations, and financial reporting for a fully remote UK-based organisation with an accent on compliance, data analysis, and financial process improvement. Focus on managing Xero Payroll, leading IR35 assessments, supporting forecasts and audits, and turning data from multiple systems into actionable financial insight.
Location: Fully remote, but the role is UK-based and can only be performed within the UK. Occasional in-person company workshops twice a year and possible team meetings may be required.
Salary: £50,000 per year. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension.

What you will do
- Deliver payroll in partnership with People Services using Xero Payroll, including PAYE and pension contribution returns.
- Prepare management accounts, financial reports, forecasts, VAT returns, and supporting analysis.
- Maintain accurate financial records in Xero, complete balance sheet reconciliations, and investigate discrepancies.
- Lead IR35 assessments and Off-Payroll Working returns while maintaining compliance with HMRC legislation and accounting standards.
- Support month-end, year-end, audit, and governance processes.
- Improve financial processes, controls, reporting, and data-driven business insight.
Requirements
- Experience managing payroll in a small or medium-sized organisation using finance and payroll software, particularly Xero.
- Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills, including extracting, analysing, manipulating, and presenting financial data from multiple sources.
- Sound knowledge of bookkeeping, financial processes, payroll regulations, HMRC requirements, and accounting standards.
- Experience preparing financial analysis and management information for planning, budgeting, forecasting, and decision-making.
- Excellent analytical, organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Professional qualifications such as AAT, CIPP, CIMA, or a similar certification.
