Manager, Software Engineering - Data Platform

Location: Remote within the United States or onsite from hubs in San Francisco, CA, or New York, NY. In-person onboarding is required if hired.

Annual base salary: $258,000–$376,000 USD.

What you will do

• Lead and grow engineers building and operating the data platform, owning delivery, technical direction, and team health.
• Set the roadmap and technical strategy while providing hands-on technical leadership when needed.
• Drive platform reliability, scalability, and long-term evolution as adoption grows.
• Hire, coach, and develop engineers and tech leads while building an inclusive, high-performing team.
• Partner with Data Science, Product, Finance, and Engineering to align priorities and drive execution.
• Evaluate build-versus-buy decisions and manage platform vendors where appropriate.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience managing engineers, including senior individual contributors or tech leads.
• Experience building and scaling production data platforms or data infrastructure systems.
• Strong software engineering background with senior- or staff-level technical depth.
• Ability to set technical direction, prioritize under ambiguity, and drive cross-functional alignment.
• Strong written communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Must be based in the United States for remote work, or work from a US hub.

Nice to have

• Experience with large-scale batch or streaming data processing and applied AI or ML workloads.
• Experience with experimentation or feature flagging platforms.
• Experience evaluating and managing vendors.
• Experience hiring at pace and growing tech leads.
