Commercial Lawyer (Fintech)

Location: Hybrid in St. John's, Newfoundland & Labrador, or Toronto, Canada, with at least three days per week in the office.

What you will do

• Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements with clients, vendors, and strategic partners.
• Advise business leaders, sales management, and product teams on commercial, legal, and regulatory matters.
• Update and streamline legal templates and documentation across the business.
• Collaborate with commercial management, sales, product, technology, information security, risk, and legal teams.
• Support strategic initiatives while mitigating legal and regulatory risk.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor or equivalent law degree and a bachelor's degree.
• Admission or eligibility to practice law in at least one jurisdiction in the Americas region.
• 8+ years of post-qualification experience in commercial law, including exposure to technology or financial services.
• Experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial technology contracts for global businesses.
• Experience advising business teams on commercial, legal, and regulatory issues.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to have

• Admission or eligibility to practice in Newfoundland & Labrador or Ontario.
• Familiarity with or interest in data privacy, cybersecurity, AI technology, and emerging technology commercialization issues.
• Experience with contract lifecycle management platforms.
• Background in financial services, fintech, or other highly regulated industries.
