Lead Design Engineer (Design Systems)

Location: Remote in the United States or onsite in San Mateo, California, with occasional travel for team offsites and key meetings.

What you will do

• Own the connection between the design system and production code across iOS, Android, and web.
• Build reusable components, design tokens, shared foundations, and scalable component architecture.
• Translate high-fidelity designs into production-quality components with strong visual accuracy, performance, and accessibility.
• Improve design-to-code workflows through tooling, automation, documentation, and developer experience initiatives.
• Establish governance for component APIs, tokens, naming conventions, versioning, and adoption.
• Explore AI-powered workflows that improve product design, development, documentation, and maintenance.

Requirements

• Significant experience building and evolving design systems for modern consumer software products.
• Strong frontend engineering experience with reusable component libraries and design infrastructure.
• Deep knowledge of design tokens, component architecture, accessibility, documentation, and design system practices.
• Strong understanding of Figma and modern design team workflows.
• Experience shipping high-quality mobile or web applications.
• Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Nice to have

• Experience with React Native or cross-platform component libraries.
• Experience building token pipelines, design system tooling, Figma plugins, or internal developer tools.
• Experience with Storybook or similar documentation platforms.
• Experience using AI to improve design workflows or automate repetitive work.
