AI Data Engineer

Location: Hybrid working across hirify.global offices, client sites, and home in the UK; 100% home working is not permitted. Locations include London, Bristol, Manchester, Newcastle, and Birmingham. Applicants must be eligible to obtain UK Security Check or Developed Vetting clearance; SC eligibility requires five years of continuous residence in the United Kingdom.

What you will do

• Build and maintain scalable batch and streaming data pipelines and cloud data products using ETL/ELT and distributed processing.
• Prepare governed datasets, features, retrieval pipelines, embeddings, vector stores, and context for AI, RAG, and agentic workflows.
• Develop data models, validation checks, lineage, documentation, and quality controls for reliable and auditable data products.
• Implement production observability, logging, alerting, SLAs, drift monitoring, retrieval-quality evaluation, and anomaly detection.
• Collaborate with business analysts, platform engineers, data scientists, and DevOps in an agile delivery environment.
• Apply version control, code review, automated testing, CI/CD, and responsible AI-assisted engineering practices.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience delivering production data pipelines and data platforms.
• Strong Python and SQL skills with Git, code review, unit testing, CI/CD, and production troubleshooting experience.
• Experience with distributed data processing, lakehouse or warehouse patterns, data modeling, and performance optimization.
• Experience with cloud data services for storage, compute, and orchestration on at least one major cloud platform.
• Practical experience using AI coding assistants securely, with awareness of data confidentiality.
• Eligibility for UK security clearance is required, including continuous UK residence for the last five years for SC clearance.

Nice to have

• Experience with RAG, embeddings, vector search, LLM orchestration, or LLM evaluation and observability.
• Streaming and event-driven technologies such as Kafka or Spark Structured Streaming.
• Relevant cloud or data engineering certifications.
• Depth in Azure and Databricks or AWS data and AI services.
