Senior Director, Total Rewards (Benefits, Compensation, and HRIS): Leading the modernization of NPR’s total rewards strategy, benefits, compensation programs, and UKG-enabled people systems with an accent on compliance, data integrity, and scalable operations. Focus on designing compensation frameworks, overseeing retirement and benefits administration, auditing complex datasets, and driving cross-functional transformation with HR, Finance, Legal, Payroll, and external vendors.
Location: Hybrid role requiring at least two days per week in the Washington, D.C. office; residence in the D.C. metropolitan area is required.
Salary: $192,000–$230,000 USD plus benefits.

What you will do
- Lead the strategic modernization of total rewards and HRIS functions, including scalable operating models and digital workflows.
- Develop and oversee benefits, leave, retirement, compensation, and wellness strategies.
- Direct annual compensation planning, salary analytics, pay equity frameworks, and total rewards budgeting.
- Lead UKG and integrated people systems roadmaps, configuration, eligibility rules, reporting, and data controls.
- Manage compliance activities, audits, plan corrections, governance, and reporting related to benefits and compensation.
- Direct, mentor, and develop Total Rewards and HRIS teams while partnering with senior leadership, Finance, Legal, Payroll, vendors, and auditors.
Requirements
- 12+ years of progressive leadership experience across total rewards and HR technology, including at least 6 years managing multidisciplinary HR teams.
- Advanced experience managing, configuring, or optimizing enterprise HRIS platforms, specifically UKG modules.
- Comprehensive knowledge of benefits, retirement plans, ERISA fiduciary duties, nondiscrimination testing, Form 5500 reporting, audits, 401(k), and 403(b) plans.
- Strong compensation expertise covering salary bands, market pricing, pay equity, incentive programs, governance, and analytics.
- Advanced analytical, auditing, issue-resolution, communication, advisory, and vendor-negotiation skills.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience; the employee must reside in the D.C. metropolitan area and work from the Washington, D.C. office at least two days per week.
Nice to have
- CCP, CMS, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or CEBS certification.
- Experience administering benefits and compensation programs in a unionized environment.
- Experience supporting retirement plan audits, corrections, compliance testing, and governance.
