Director of AI Engineering (AI)

Location: Remote from Colombia, with reliable overlap with US business hours required.

Salary: Col$7,000–Col$8,000 per month.

What you will do

• Manage and develop a team of 3–5 Colombia-based engineers, including performance management, feedback, retention, and growth planning.
• Own end-to-end delivery across multiple client engagements, managing timelines, quality, dependencies, risks, handoffs, and scope.
• Stay hands-on with complex AI builds, including agentic systems, multi-step pipelines, and integrations with client infrastructure.
• Drive architecture decisions and contribute to internal standards for production tools, models, frameworks, and reusable engineering patterns.
• Partner with the Head of AI Engineering on team structure, hiring, capacity planning, technical direction, and capability gaps.
• Join client discussions, translate ambiguous requirements into delivery plans, and communicate technical trade-offs and feasibility clearly.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years building production LLM-powered systems such as RAG, agents, structured extraction, and evaluation.
• Direct people management experience, including hard feedback, performance conversations, and measurable team development.
• Experience owning delivery across multiple concurrent client engagements in a consulting, agency, or client-services environment.
• Expert-level Python and Node, deep full-stack fundamentals, and production cloud experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Strong knowledge of prompt and context engineering, evaluation, embeddings, vector search, agent orchestration frameworks, and LLM API integration.
• Must be based in Colombia and able to reliably overlap with US business hours; C1 English required.

• Experience building internal tooling, documentation standards, and cross-engagement engineering practices.
• Experience with partnerships or ecosystems involving leading AI model providers.
