Commissioning Editor, Collections Management and Acquisitions (Publishing)

Location: Hybrid work from the New York or Jersey City office in the United States.

Salary: $68,000–$80,000 annualized base salary.

What you will do

• Lead commissioning strategies for key journals and drive portfolio growth through Topical Collections.
• Identify collection topics using market trends, competitor analysis, and data-driven research.
• Recruit and build relationships with Guest Editors, authors, Editorial Board Members, and research communities.
• Manage the Collections pipeline, publication targets, editorial workflows, and Guest Editor training.
• Partner with editorial, data, analytics, and marketing teams to develop collection strategies and promotion plans.
• Support Managing Editors with peer review activities and complex content acquisition initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree, preferably in a STEM discipline, with a strong interest in science.
• 3–4 years of experience in publishing or scientific research.
• Understanding of the research process, scientific communities, research publishing, and Open Access journals.
• Strong data analysis, reporting, presentation, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of research ethics and the ability to manage stakeholders, competing priorities, and a varied workload.
• Strategic, commercial, creative, and adaptable approach with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Nice to have

• Direct experience managing a journal or journal portfolio.
• Ability to query data directly.
