Senior Software Engineer (AI Platform)

Location: Fully remote within the United States; U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance are required.

What you will do

• Design and build REST or gRPC APIs that expose governed business concepts and metrics for AI and agent consumption.
• Develop services that convert business questions into validated queries and return results with access controls and provenance.
• Integrate transactional and analytical data sources while respecting data grain, join semantics, and performance requirements.
• Enforce authorization, data-sensitivity handling, and governed-view routing throughout the data-serving path.
• Build tooling to identify and surface the datasets, metrics, and relationships used in real-world queries.
• Collaborate with data architects, functional data owners, and AI/agent teams to establish shared definition contracts.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in software engineering or a related STEM field with at least 8 years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree with at least 6 years of relevant experience.
• Production experience with backend services, authentication, authorization, latency optimization, and reliability engineering.
• Experience designing APIs for AI or agent consumption, such as tool-calling interfaces, retrieval/RAG backends, or LLM orchestration services.
• Working experience with both transactional databases and analytical warehouses.
• Strong SQL skills, including generating or compiling queries for semantic layers, metrics layers, query builders, or ORM internals.
• U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance are required.

Nice to have

• Experience with semantic or metrics layers such as dbt Semantic Layer, Cube, or LookML.
• Experience with enterprise data warehouses or data-virtualization platforms.
• Hands-on experience with Rust or Python, knowledge graphs, entity resolution, or shared-identifier reconciliation.
• Background in defense, manufacturing, or complex multi-system enterprise environments.
