Senior Data Engineer (Healthcare)

Location: Hybrid work in Hamburg or Berlin, Germany, with flex-time. Work from abroad is available for up to 30 calendar days per year.

What you will do

• Build, optimize, and operate ELT pipelines using Python, SQL, Prefect or Airflow, and diverse international data sources.
• Implement entity resolution and master data management for international hospital entities.
• Develop a unified healthcare data ontology covering hospitals, departments, specialties, metrics, and classification standards.
• Establish data contracts, schema governance, lineage tracking, reproducibility, and automated validation.
• Optimize storage, query performance, compute costs, security, and reliability across AWS and Snowflake.
• Partner with Analytics Engineers, Data Scientists, and methodology experts to deliver documented, production-ready datasets.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience building production data pipelines and data platforms.
• Advanced Python and analytical SQL skills, with experience ingesting file formats, REST APIs, databases, S3, and Apache Iceberg.
• Hands-on experience with Prefect, Airflow, or Dagster, and with entity resolution or record linkage frameworks.
• Production experience with AWS, including S3 and ECS or EC2, combined with Snowflake experience.
• Experience with data contracts or schema management using tools such as Pydantic, dbt contracts, or JSON Schema.
• Fluent English required; German is a plus. A bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a related quantitative field is expected.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of RDF/OWL, SKOS, Neo4j, LinkML, knowledge graphs, or healthcare terminologies such as SNOMED CT, ICD/OPS, or FHIR.
• Experience with metadata and lineage tools such as OpenMetadata, DataHub, or dbt docs.
• Proficiency with Terraform and healthcare domain knowledge.
