Lead Data and AI Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid work in Hamburg or Berlin, Germany. Work from abroad is available for up to 30 calendar days per year.

What you will do

• Lead and mentor Data and AI engineers, set objectives, review code, and support professional growth.
• Drive end-to-end development of AI-powered solutions, automation frameworks, and agentic workflows.
• Design, deploy, and maintain scalable cloud infrastructure for AI services and APIs.
• Identify automation opportunities and streamline workflows across the company.
• Shape product evolution and prioritized roadmaps with stakeholders.
• Track AI and automation trends and integrate state-of-the-art methods into team projects.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Data Operations, or Software Engineering, including technical team leadership.
• Strong Python skills for scalable data pipelines, automation, and backend services.
• Experience with AWS, including ECS, EC2, EKS, S3, and Lambda; Apache Airflow, Docker, and Git.
• Deep understanding of foundation models, retrieval-augmented generation, prompt engineering, evaluation metrics, and AI trade-offs.
• Experience contributing to product management and roadmap prioritization.
• Excellent English communication skills for cross-functional leadership and stakeholder coordination.
