Systems Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid, with regular in-office work at Greifswalder Strasse 212 in Berlin. An existing right to work in Germany is required; visa sponsorship is not currently available.

Salary: €90,000–€140,000 gross per year, depending on level and scope, plus equity.

What you will do

• Design and operate distributed systems that remain correct under concurrency, retries, recovery, long-running execution, and tenant isolation.
• Improve storage and data systems for customer and agent-generated data, including versioning, recovery, consistency, residency, and predictable performance.
• Develop secure sandbox infrastructure for untrusted agent code with persistent filesystems, restricted networking, scheduling, suspension, and fast startup.
• Optimize inference and resource-serving systems for throughput, latency, accelerator utilization, reliability, and cost.
• Build scheduling, isolation, billing, and usage-metering mechanisms with idempotent ingestion, reservations, reconciliation, and auditable records.
• Own shipped changes in production, including observability, recovery, migrations, and incident resolution.

Requirements

• Experience owning technically difficult production systems in distributed systems, databases, runtimes, inference, networking, or storage.
• Strong reasoning about concurrency, isolation, ordering, data loss, failure modes, performance, reliability, and cost.
• Ability to investigate unfamiliar systems from first principles, form testable hypotheses, and use measurement to identify underlying mechanisms and bottlenecks.
• Ability to make sound architectural decisions for underspecified problems and communicate complex systems, tradeoffs, and uncertainty clearly.
• Proficiency with relevant systems technologies; the stack includes Go, TypeScript, Linux, containers, microVMs, filesystems, networking, Protobuf, gRPC, Kubernetes, Terraform, PostgreSQL, and Redis.
• Existing right to work in Germany required; visa sponsorship is not available.
