Senior Design Release Engineer Body/Chassis Structure (Automotive)

Location: Hybrid role based in Warren, Michigan, with in-office attendance at least three times per week. Travel required up to 25%. GM does not provide immigration sponsorship, and the role is not eligible for relocation benefits.

What you will do

• Generate and execute technical solutions for new vehicle programs.
• Lead advanced component and technology development, including design analysis and engineering evaluation.
• Coordinate component and subsystem designs with manufacturing, analysis, safety, vehicle development, purchasing, quality, and other functions.
• Support cost reduction, product and process improvements, prototype activities, and production builds.
• Balance cost, mass, complexity, and timing while managing design release throughout the vehicle lifecycle.
• Ensure component and subsystem integrity and compliance with GM technical and quality standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or automotive technology.
• At least 5 years of engineering experience.
• Experience or knowledge in body and chassis structure systems engineering design.
• Ability to work independently, communicate complex issues clearly, and provide technical leadership.
• Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle regularly is required.
• Immigration sponsorship is not available now or in the future, including H-1B, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, and TN authorization support.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree or another advanced degree in engineering.
• Design for Six Sigma, DFMEA, and GD&T experience.
• Knowledge of advanced high-strength alloys, tooling, welding, mechanical fastening, and sealing systems.
• Knowledge of vehicle dynamics, FMVSS crash regulations, and GM technical specifications.
