Director, AI Experience Design Lead

Location: New York City, United States; hybrid work arrangement

Annual base salary: $176,600–$294,300, plus a 20% bonus target and eligibility for a share-based long-term incentive program.

What you will do

• Own and evolve hirify.global’s AI-first design system across human and agent experiences, including tokens, patterns, components, and behavioral standards.
• Ship design standards as code into engineering pipelines with built-in WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility and track adoption, overrides, exceptions, and compliance.
• Design agentic and conversational experiences across chat, voice, and agent-to-agent interaction, including dialog flows, state management, escalation, and safe fallback behaviors.
• Define assistant tone, refusal patterns, transparency cues, explainability, and regulated-context edge cases.
• Deliver high-impact design work and functional prototypes while partnering with AI, Data, Product, and Engineering teams on LLM-enabled products.
• Build and lead an AI-native design team, oversee talent development, manage staffing and budget, and advise executive stakeholders.

Requirements

• 10–15+ years of progressive experience in experience design, UX, or product design delivering complex digital products in enterprise or highly matrixed environments.
• 5+ years of direct people management experience, including hiring, developing, and leading design teams.
• Experience with design systems, AI-first interaction patterns, agentic AI workflows, and conversational UX across chat and/or voice.
• Working fluency with frontend development principles, APIs, design-token pipelines, and production design standards as code.
• Expertise in AI behavior, transparency, explainability, refusal patterns, safety guardrails, responsible AI interaction models, and WCAG 2.1 AA compliance.
• Permanent U.S. work authorization is required; U.S. work visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience building with LLM APIs or agent frameworks.
• Advanced prompt engineering skills and experience with AI experience evaluation.
• Experience building design teams from the ground up and working in lean or agile product environments.
