What you will do
- Develop basic and detailed engineering solutions for industrial automation projects from technical proposals through implementation, training, and documentation.
- Program, validate, simulate, commission, and start up automated machines, lines, processes, and cells.
- Select and validate automation hardware and software, including PLCs, drives, robots, control networks, and safety systems.
- Support project coordinators and collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams on automation delivery and continuous improvement.
- Troubleshoot recurring and chronic equipment problems and maintain software backups, archives, and project documentation.
- Develop standardized automation solutions to improve implementation time, cost, safety, and productivity.
Requirements
- Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation and Robotics, or an equivalent technical field.
- 5–10 years of experience in a similar automation role or in managing related projects.
- Strong expertise in PLC programming, troubleshooting, and system integration using Rockwell Automation platforms, including Studio 5000, Logix 5000, and FactoryTalk.
- Experience with AC/DC motor drives, Rockwell PowerFlex drives, ABB ACS/DCS drives, and ABB industrial robots using RAPID.
- Experience commissioning and troubleshooting manufacturing automation systems across PLCs, drives, robotics, control networks, and safety systems.
- Strong understanding of Canadian manufacturing safety standards and procedures is required.
Nice to have
- Experience with Siemens PLC platforms.
- Experience in a steel mill or metal manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Project and Microsoft Office applications.
