Operations Supervisor (Waste-to-Energy)

Location: Newark, New Jersey, USA. The role requires coverage of a modified DuPont rotating shift schedule, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, outages, and vacation periods.

Salary: $118,700–$169,800 USD per annum.

What you will do

• Lead, coach, mentor, and develop plant operations personnel while promoting safety, accountability, teamwork, and productivity.
• Oversee the safe and reliable operation of boilers, steam generation systems, turbines, electrical generation equipment, thermal treatment systems, and supporting plant equipment.
• Monitor and optimize plant performance, production targets, environmental compliance, and operating conditions.
• Direct responses to alarms, equipment failures, emergencies, abnormal conditions, injuries, and operational upsets.
• Coordinate startups, shutdowns, outages, maintenance activities, shift turnovers, inspections, and operational communications.
• Approve equipment clearances, lockout/tagout activities, safety permits, and other critical operational controls while providing leadership coverage for operations management.

Requirements

• 5–7 or more years of supervisory or leadership experience in a heavy industrial environment.
• Hands-on experience with power generation, steam-generating operations, waste management, resource recovery, chemical processing, industrial utilities, or similar industrial processes.
• Experience operating or supervising high-pressure boilers, steam systems, electrical generation equipment, thermal treatment systems, or related process equipment.
• Knowledge of instrumentation, control systems, and distributed control systems (DCS), with strong leadership, communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
• Valid New Jersey Boiler Operator License required, or ability to obtain the certification within one year of hire.
• High School Diploma or GED required; an engineering, power plant technology, industrial technology, or operations management degree is preferred. ASME QRO Provisional Certification must be obtained within six months and full certification within twelve months of hire.

Nice to have

• Experience in thermo-mechanical treatment, waste-to-energy, resource recovery, pulp and paper, coal-fired operations, or U.S. Navy steam-generating operations.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Power Plant Technology, Industrial Technology, Operations Management, or a related discipline.
