What you will do

• Evaluate accounting policies and procedures as business conditions, processes, and accounting guidance change.
• Prepare complex accounting analyses, journal entries, supporting work papers, and process documentation.
• Maintain an accurate general ledger and prepare financial statements and internal or external reports.
• Enhance, track, and report internal controls over financial reporting.
• Research technical accounting and regulatory requirements, including relevant legal and reporting changes.
• Provide functional guidance and training to less-experienced accountants and support colleagues with complex accounting matters.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a business discipline with at least three accounting courses and five years of accounting experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with three to five years of related experience.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, business operations, and financial reporting.
• Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and solve complex accounting problems.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including proficiency in Excel and Word.
• Must be based in the United States and able to work in the EST or CST time zones.

Nice to have

• CPA or CMA certification.
• MBA or another advanced business degree.
• Experience with utility accounting, public accounting, SEC reporting, or Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
• Experience researching technical accounting guidance.
• Excellent written and oral communication and strong interpersonal skills.
