Senior Data Engineer (Geospatial)

Location: Hybrid in the Washington, DC or Denver, CO office three days per week; United States

Salary: $160,600–$200,800 USD annual US national base salary range. New York City and California: $172,200–$215,200; San Francisco: $182,900–$228,600.

Designs, builds, and operates a large constellation of imaging satellites and delivers cloud-based Earth observation data for commercial, environmental, humanitarian, defense, and intelligence applications.

What you will do

• Architect and oversee robust, high-availability data pipelines and production data ecosystems.
• Define standards for maintaining, troubleshooting, optimizing, and monitoring data systems.
• Partner with Product, Commercial, Engineering, and other global stakeholders on long-term data strategy.
• Design and implement end-to-end data solutions, from architecture and coding through CI/CD, orchestration, automated QA, and production integration.
• Lead technical design reviews, mentor data engineers, and maintain architectural and code-quality standards.
• Support global monitoring products used by defense and intelligence customers.

Requirements

• 10+ years of relevant data engineering experience with technical leadership experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• Expert Python and SQL skills for complex ETL/ELT pipelines, including event-driven data architectures.
• Experience designing global-scale, customer-facing data architectures with strong data integrity and efficiency.
• Experience with enterprise-grade peer-reviewed codebases and CI/CD workflows using GitLab CI, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Significant cloud-native architecture experience, preferably with GCP, and experience tuning Parquet storage for sub-second query performance.

Nice to have

• Experience with modern data tooling such as dbt.
• Experience managing cloud architecture with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
• Experience architecting solutions for geospatial datasets.
• Knowledge of Earth observation or satellite operations.
