Senior Cost Engineer (Automotive)

Location: Hybrid (Must report to Global HQ in Warren, MI at least three times per week)

What you will do

• Generate detailed ground-up material cost estimates for piece prices and production tooling.
• Collaborate with product engineering, purchasing, supply chain, and global partners to validate cost targets.
• Lead cross-functional cost forums to align stakeholders on assumptions and recommendations.
• Develop and continuously improve core cost models (CCMs) and analytic tools for designated commodities.
• Mentor and coach junior cost engineers and analysts through complex estimate reviews.
• Analyze large datasets to translate complex technical data into actionable sourcing insights.

Requirements

• Must be based in or able to commute to Warren, MI.
• No immigration sponsorship provided; must have valid US work authorization now and in the future.
• At least 5 years of experience in automotive cost estimating, manufacturing, product design, or purchasing.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, or a related field.
• Expertise in MS Excel and ability to learn internal cost estimating software (e.g., GMCO$T).
• Comprehensive knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes such as injection molding, die casting, and stamping.

Nice to have

• Graduate degree (MBA, Technical Management, or Engineering).
• Experience developing supplier component quotes for OEMs.
• Direct manufacturing or launch experience in an OEM, Tier 1, or Tier 2 environment.
• Knowledge of autonomous driving, electrification, and additive manufacturing trends.
