Lead Technical Designer, Private Brands (Hard Goods)

Location: Minneapolis, MN, United States; available in two locations.

Salary: $145,000–$232,500 per year, plus potential 401(k), equity grant, and annual bonus eligibility.

What you will do

• Translate product concepts into technical specifications, construction requirements, material standards, performance criteria, and development plans.
• Establish and approve product specifications, acceptance limits, testing approaches, and validation requirements across categories.
• Evaluate samples, manufacturability, durability, functionality, product safety, and commercialization readiness.
• Identify and resolve technical, manufacturing, performance, and quality risks before production.
• Partner with Product Design, Quality Assurance, Compliance, Sourcing, Operations, Category Management, and domestic and international suppliers.
• Present technical recommendations, influence cross-functional decisions, mentor team members, and improve technical development standards and processes.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in Technical Design, Product Development, Engineering, Product Design, Industrial Design, or a related field.
• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Design, Engineering, Industrial Design, Product Design, or equivalent professional experience.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, XD, or similar design software.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.
• Experience translating product concepts into technical specifications and manufacturable solutions.
• Strong knowledge of materials, construction methods, manufacturing processes, product testing, commercialization, technical judgment, and cross-functional leadership.

Nice to have

• Experience with hard goods, consumer products, retail, private brands, or pet-industry product development.
• Experience developing technical standards, product requirements, and validation processes across multiple categories.
• Experience with domestic and international suppliers, product safety, regulatory requirements, quality systems, mentoring, or process improvement.
