Safety Engineer, EHS – Engineering and Design

Location: 16 locations are available; specific locations are not provided in the posting. Travel of up to 50% is required.

Salary: $59.85–$95.67 per hour

What you will do

• Serve as the embedded safety engineering subject-matter expert for new buildings, capital equipment deployments, process changes, pilots, and equipment modifications.
• Partner with Launch, Design, Construction, Engineering, Technology, Maintenance & Reliability, Operations, and EHS teams from concept through commissioning.
• Review engineering drawings, CAD files, specifications, vendor submissions, facility layouts, and equipment designs to identify hazards and recommend engineering controls.
• Conduct safety design reviews and technical risk assessments using ISO 12100, ANSI B11, and the hierarchy of controls; maintain hazard logs and risk registers.
• Define equipment safety requirements and acceptance criteria for Factory Acceptance Testing and Site Acceptance Testing, including safeguarding, interlocks, emergency stops, and access controls.
• Develop equipment safety policies, design standards, technical requirements, review processes, training, and documentation; support incident investigations and complex field issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Safety Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related field.
• 8+ years of experience in safety engineering or a related engineering role, preferably in warehousing, fulfillment, distribution, or manufacturing.
• Experience reading engineering drawings, CAD files, design packages, and specifications for mechanical and material-handling systems.
• Knowledge of material-handling equipment, conveyors, racking, warehousing infrastructure, OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, ISO 12100, ANSI B11, NEC, UL, CE, and NRTL requirements.
• Experience with Management of Change processes, risk assessments, safety design reviews, and hierarchy-of-controls-based hazard mitigation.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar CAD software; strong communication and project-prioritization skills. Must be willing to travel up to 50%.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer license or active progress toward licensure.
• Structural experience with mezzanines, conveyor support systems, elevated structures, or racking installations.
• CSP or ASP certification.
• Experience with robotics, AMR/AGV technology, ISO 45001, ISO 13849, third-party certification programs, ergonomics, or high-volume fulfillment environments.
