Engineering Manager (Java/Kotlin)

What you will do

• Build and scale an extensible tax platform supporting Airbnb’s global operations and compliance requirements.
• Develop microservices, APIs, infrastructure, applications, and tools for web and mobile integrations.
• Improve the accuracy, latency, reliability, and availability of host-facing tax systems.
• Lead engineers through architectural changes and make trade-offs for highly available distributed applications.
• Shape the technical roadmap and long-term strategy in collaboration with product, engineering, data, and platform teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent practical experience.
• 9+ years of industry experience.
• Professional experience with Java, Kotlin, relational databases, and distributed systems.
• Experience leading technical discussions, mentoring engineers, and driving engineering excellence across teams.
• Knowledge of scalable web architecture, APIs, data pipelines, efficient algorithms, observability, incident management, and fault-tolerant services.
• Must be based in an eligible US state; experience managing engineers or interest in developing people-leadership skills.
