Member of the Technical Staff, Internal Agent (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA, United States

Salary: $208,000–$312,000 per year base pay in San Francisco; compensation outside San Francisco may be adjusted based on employee location.

What you will do

• Design and build V as an internal agentic interface for answering questions, analyzing data, and executing complex multi-system workflows.
• Develop agent architecture for intent understanding, planning, skill and tool selection, failure recovery, and reliable long-running tasks.
• Ship natural-language and interactive experiences across Slack, web, and other product surfaces.
• Build evaluation, observability, and feedback systems to measure accuracy, usefulness, efficiency, and trustworthiness.
• Create reusable primitives that enable teams across Vercel to add capabilities consistently.
• Help define how companies can be operated through agents and turn internal learnings into customer-facing infrastructure.

Requirements

• 7+ years of full-time software engineering experience.
• Strong TypeScript proficiency.
• Experience working across conversational UI, interactive data experiences, APIs, queues, databases, permissions, and production infrastructure.
• Understanding of AI interaction quality, including context selection, tool use, memory, latency, generated interfaces, uncertainty, and progress communication.
• Openness and adaptability when learning unfamiliar technologies, domains, or responsibilities.

Nice to have

• Experience using or building agent harnesses such as OpenClaw, Hermes, or Pi.
