Principal Engineer (AV Networking)

Location: Sydney, New South Wales, Australia; hybrid with 3 days per week in the office.

What you will do

• Lead architecture decisions spanning on-premise appliances and cloud services, including deployment boundaries, state consistency, and safe third-party integrations.
• Resolve cross-team decisions such as build-versus-buy choices and complex engineering trade-offs.
• Work with product managers and technical leads to turn product goals into buildable systems and shape roadmap constraints.
• Identify and reduce technical risks that are not owned by a single team.
• Improve testing strategy, automation, and development processes.
• Prove and roll out effective AI-assisted engineering workflows.

Requirements

• Experience designing and shipping reliable systems combining edge devices and cloud services.
• Strong distributed-systems fundamentals, including networking, protocol design, reliability, and observability.
• Experience with real-world integrations involving protocols, APIs, and third-party systems.
• Hands-on engineering approach with the ability to validate designs in code.
• Ability to select tools appropriate to the problem and become productive quickly with unfamiliar technologies.
• Experience or strong capability with C++, Rust, TypeScript, GraphQL, MongoDB, Redis, and AWS.
• Experience building guardrails, workflows, or tooling for effective AI-assisted development.
• Experience shaping architecture and engineering culture through technical credibility and turning vague mandates into concrete direction.
