TL;DR
Principal Engineer - Platform (TypeScript/AWS): Designing and driving architecture for a multi-year platform journey encompassing embedded devices, cloud services, and the web with an accent on distributed systems reliability and scalability. Focus on translating product goals into buildable systems, mitigating cross-team technical risks, and championing AI-assisted engineering workflows.
Location: Hybrid in Sydney, New South Wales (3 days per week in office)

What you will do
- Partner with engineering and product leads on platform direction, build vs buy decisions, and architectural trade-offs.
- Translate product goals into buildable systems and surface technical constraints that shape the roadmap.
- Drive the overall architecture across the platform, including devices, cloud services, and the web.
- Identify and reduce technical risks that are not owned by a single team.
- Improve development processes, test strategies, and automation to keep a multi-team platform shippable.
- Champion AI-assisted engineering by identifying and implementing high-leverage workflows across teams.
Requirements
- Deep experience designing and shipping platforms where devices and cloud services work together reliably.
- Strong fundamentals in distributed systems, networking, protocol design, and observability.
- Hands-on proficiency across the stack: TypeScript, Node.js, GraphQL, MongoDB, Redis, AWS, and Kubernetes.
- Proven ability to shape architecture and engineering culture through technical credibility.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and able to turn vague mandates into concrete execution plans.
- Location: Must be based in Sydney, NSW for a hybrid work model (3 days in office).
