Staff Data Scientist (AI)

Location: Fully remote; hybrid work available for candidates local to Boston, United States

Salary: $160,000–$195,000 base salary annually, plus annual performance bonus and equity grant

What you will do

• Lead complex modeling and analytical projects across multiple products with limited direction.
• Develop hybrid models combining deep learning, large language models, and traditional data science techniques.
• Prototype, validate, deploy, and commercialize data science solutions quickly.
• Work with big data, federated learning, unstructured data, time series, sequence modeling, GLMs, XGBoost, and Transformers.
• Explain analytical findings clearly to customers, stakeholders, and prospects.
• Set technical direction, improve team standards, and mentor junior data scientists.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Biostatistics, Mathematics, or a related field with 5+ years of professional data science experience, or a Master’s/Ph.D. with 3–5 years of experience.
• Advanced proficiency with deep learning frameworks, Python’s data science ecosystem, and modern AI architectures including Transformers, neural networks, and LLMs.
• Experience taking models from notebooks to production, including experiment tracking, packaging, Docker, model serving, APIs, CI/CD, and pipeline orchestration.
• Experience monitoring production models for data drift, concept drift, performance degradation, and alerting.
• Strong technical communication, cross-functional collaboration, initiative, and peer leadership skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with actuarial methods and collaboration with actuaries.
• Familiarity with healthcare and medical data.
• Experience with underwriting, claims, long-tailed events, or rare-event prediction.
