Substation Physical Engineer - REMOTE (High-Voltage Utility Design): Leading the physical design and engineering of 69kV–500kV electric utility substations with an accent on protection, grounding, illumination, and constructible design packages. Focus on coordinating multidisciplinary deliverables, applying IEEE/NESC/NEC requirements, supporting complex engineering studies, and mentoring junior engineers.
Location: Fully remote within the United States; participation in site visits and constructability reviews may be required.
Salary: $89,261–$183,610 per year

What you will do
- Lead physical design and prepare drawings for high-voltage substations, including one-line and three-line diagrams, general arrangements, grounding, conduit, cable tray, lighting, and lightning protection.
- Lead AC load, illumination, grounding, and lightning-shielding engineering studies.
- Develop bills of materials and incorporate vendor information and client standards into design deliverables.
- Coordinate with protection and controls, civil and structural engineering, and drafting disciplines.
- Support client meetings, technical discussions, project planning, site visits, and constructability reviews.
- Ensure QA/QC and compliance with IEEE, NESC, NEC, and utility standards while mentoring junior engineers and designers.
Requirements
- BS in Engineering, preferably Electrical Engineering with a power focus.
- At least 2 years of experience in substation physical design for electric utilities.
- Experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar design tools.
- Knowledge of substation design standards, grounding studies, and utility specifications.
- Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain it within 6 months.
- Must be able to work remotely from the United States.
Nice to have
- Experience leading 3D-modeled substation projects using Autodesk Inventor.
- Familiarity with CDEGS grounding software and Agi32 illumination software.
- Strong communication, leadership, project management, and mentoring skills.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
