Principal Data Scientist (AI)

Location: Fully remote in the United States; hybrid work is available for candidates local to Boston.

Salary: $190,000–$235,000 base salary annually, plus annual performance bonus and equity grant.

What you will do

• Lead complex, high-impact modeling and analytical initiatives and set modeling strategy across the organization.
• Develop hybrid models combining deep learning, large language models, and traditional data science techniques.
• Prototype, validate, deploy, and commercialize predictive models rapidly.
• Work with big data, federated learning, unstructured data, time-series and sequence modeling, GLMs, XGBoost, and Transformers.
• Communicate analytical findings clearly to customers, stakeholders, and prospects.
• Establish standards for model quality, speed, monitoring, and long-term impact.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Biostatistics, Mathematics, or a related field with 8+ years of professional data science experience building predictive models, or a master’s/Ph.D. with 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Expert knowledge of deep learning, machine learning algorithms, and the core Python data science ecosystem.
• Deep experience with natural language, medical data, long-tail predictions, or similar problem spaces.
• Strong familiarity with all phases of the MLOps lifecycle, including creating team standards and practices.
• Experience monitoring model drift, KPIs, and business impact while addressing issues and technical debt.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with nontechnical stakeholders and leadership.

Nice to have

• Fluency with actuarial methods and experience working with actuaries.
• Familiarity with healthcare and medical data.
• Experience with underwriting, claims, long-tailed predictions, or rare events.
