Principal Data Scientist, Detection (AI)

Location: Hybrid; available in New York or London

Salary: $215,000–$270,000 annual salary for New York City-based hires; compensation may vary by work location.

What you will do

• Lead research, design, and evaluation of detection models identifying automated, fraudulent, and malicious activity at Internet scale.
• Define detection metrics and evaluation strategies for problems with noisy, delayed, contested, or missing ground truth.
• Mentor others in identifying behavioral patterns that distinguish adversaries from legitimate users.
• Drive adoption of promising AI and machine learning techniques and contribute to the broader research community.
• Partner with ML Engineers, Data Engineers, and Product teams to influence roadmaps and align detection strategy with company priorities.
• Shape long-term detection strategy across multiple product areas.

Requirements

• 8–10 years of professional experience in Data Science, ML Engineering, or Software Engineering.
• Experience with fraud, abuse, and/or bot detection on large, high-velocity traffic.
• Strong applied statistics, machine learning, AI methodology, and large-scale data fundamentals.
• Ability to make ambiguous, high-stakes technical decisions with incomplete information.
• Production experience with Python and SQL.
• Ability to work in a hybrid setup in New York or London.

Nice to have

• Experience building detections with weak, delayed, absent, or adversarial labels.
• Understanding of how detection deployment can affect future signal visibility.
• Strong programming and engineering practices in research and production code.
• Ability to connect technical work to business impact and communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
