What you will do

• Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of secure, scalable backend systems for a global usage-based billing platform.
• Build distributed services, event-driven workflows, APIs, and data-processing pipelines for usage capture, rating, billing, reconciliation, and integrations.
• Own service-level outcomes including observability, SLOs, SLIs, alerting, resilience, incident readiness, and post-incident improvements.
• Drive technical design reviews, architecture documentation, code reviews, roadmap planning, modernization, and migration strategy.
• Partner with product, finance, commerce, data, architecture, and platform teams to deliver durable technical solutions.
• Mentor engineers and improve engineering practices across testing, deployment safety, security, and production support.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong backend development and production operations experience.
• Deep knowledge of distributed systems, microservices, event-driven architecture, real-time or near-real-time processing, and cloud-native design.
• Proficiency in Java, Python, Go, Kotlin, or a similar backend language.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services such as Lambda, Fargate, ECS, SQS, SNS, DynamoDB, Aurora, API Gateway, and CloudWatch.
• Experience designing highly available, low-latency, fault-tolerant, consistent, and multi-region systems, plus strong communication and mentoring skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with billing, payments, metering, usage, commerce, financial systems, or other correctness-critical platforms.
• Experience with Kafka, Kinesis, Flink, Spark Streaming, SQS, or similar high-throughput streaming and messaging systems.
• Experience with idempotent, auditable, eventually consistent, transactional, analytical, and event-sourced systems.
• Experience with infrastructure as code, CI/CD, automated testing, progressive delivery, cloud migration, and cost optimization.
