Backend Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Mexico City, working from the Reforma office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

What you will do

• Architect, develop, test, and maintain secure microservices, data models, aggregations, alerting, and analytics.
• Design and orchestrate near-real-time and post-aggregation data flows across relational, document, graph, and big-data stores.
• Optimize SQL, map/reduce, queue-processing, and other data-flow operations while ensuring integrity, availability, and security.
• Implement Terraform-based infrastructure as code and maintain secure CI/CD pipelines with Azure DevOps.
• Collaborate with architects, product managers, and DevOps teams on secure and privacy-compliant roadmaps.
• Conduct code and design reviews, mentor engineers, and drive AI-assisted automation and context-aware security.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of backend development experience with Python, C#, or a similar language.
• Experience working in microservice environments, including services written in Python and C#.
• Experience with Azure and/or AWS, Kubernetes, and relational and NoSQL databases such as Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB.
• Strong understanding of data modeling, query optimization, and transactional consistency in distributed environments.
• Expertise in Terraform for Azure Cloud and experience with CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.
• Practical experience integrating AI/ML systems using the Model Context Protocol or similar AI frameworks.
• Deep understanding of cloud security, identity management, and privileged access control.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

Nice to have

• Strong Python skills with the ability to work in other languages.
• Experience with streams, large datasets, database performance tuning, replication, and high availability.
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures, service meshes, API gateways, Datadog, Grafana, Zero Trust, and secure software lifecycle practices.
• Experience in AI-enhanced security, automated policy enforcement, or data compliance management.
• Success in Agile software development and continuous delivery environments.
