TL;DR
Humanitarian Safety Advisor (Humanitarian Aid): Leading the establishment and operationalization of the Humanitarian Safety Unit (HSU) for the North-East and North Central regions of Nigeria with an accent on safety coordination mechanisms and member-owned safety frameworks. Focus on developing safety information products, managing incident databases, and facilitating high-level coordination with government and UN bodies.
Location: Duty station: Maiduguri, Nigeria. This is a National Position.

What you will do
- Establish and lead the Humanitarian Safety Unit (HSU) for NIF member organisations.
- Facilitate safety coordination meetings and roundtables to promote operational awareness and information sharing.
- Develop safety information products, including the 6Ws database and quarterly operational reports.
- Maintain and analyze an operational incident database to support humanitarian preparedness and decision-making.
- Coordinate the delivery of safety training (HEAT, SSAFE) for humanitarian personnel.
- Liaise with UNDSS under the SLT framework and government authorities to facilitate humanitarian access.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of NGO work experience within international humanitarian or recovery assistance programs.
- Bachelor’s degree in conflict and development, Sociology, international relations, international humanitarian law, or a related field.
- Experience working in complex and volatile contexts.
- Fluency in English (written and verbal) is required.
- Advanced knowledge of communications technology, including satellite communications and wireless networking.
- Sound working knowledge of the UN Security Management System and the Saving Lives Together (SLT) framework.
Nice to have
- Fluency in languages spoken in Northern Nigeria, particularly Hausa.
- Experience working for a humanitarian coordination body.
