Gas Turbine Performance Engineer (Aerospace Propulsion): Analysis and modelling of gas turbine engine performance to support the development, validation, and optimisation of engine systems with an accent on thermodynamic performance models and steady-state/transient analysis. Focus on optimizing engine efficiency, operability, and generating performance evidence for certification.

Location: Hybrid (2-3 days on site in Derby, United Kingdom)

What you will do

  • Conduct steady-state and transient performance analysis of gas turbine engines.
  • Develop and execute thermodynamic performance models for design, off-design, and failure conditions.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary design, manufacturing, and test teams to meet performance targets.
  • Analyse engine operability, including compressor stability, throttle response, and turbine overspeed.
  • Support engine test predictions, model correlation, and production performance improvements.
  • Generate technical evidence and reports to support certification and pass-off requirements.

Requirements

  • Must be based in or able to commute to Derby, UK (Hybrid 2-3 days on site).
  • Willingness to undergo and maintain Security Clearance (Baseline Personnel Security Standard).
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or equivalent military experience.
  • Experience in gas turbine engine performance analysis and modelling (2-6 years).
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics and propulsion system performance.
  • Proficiency in Python for engineering and data analysis.

Nice to have

  • Experience using NPSS (Numerical Propulsion System Simulation).
  • Knowledge of engine deck models and performance simulation tools.
  • Familiarity with aerospace propulsion certification requirements.
  • Experience in predictive maintenance, deterioration analysis, or engine health monitoring.
  • Background working within an aerospace OEM or defence environment.
