Human Resources Specialist (Canadian HR/Compliance): Supporting clients and professionals across the Canadian employee lifecycle while managing payroll, benefits, HR providers, and compliance projects with an accent on Canadian employment law, regulatory requirements, and customer guidance. Focus on solving complex HR issues, improving HR Operations workflows with AI, and coordinating cross-functional compliance initiatives.

Location: Remote-first in Canada; candidates should be based in Alberta or British Columbia. Flexible hours across time zones may be required.

Annual gross fixed pay: CAD 81,600–102,000, plus variable compensation.

What you will do

  • Act as a regional expert for Canadian employee lifecycle events and HR functions.
  • Provide senior-level guidance on Canadian HR practices, benefits, payroll, employment legislation, and compliance.
  • Manage Canadian payroll providers, benefits brokers, HR advisors, and other service partners.
  • Support client acquisition and long-term customer relationships through proactive HR guidance.
  • Handle offboarding and terminations in compliance with Canadian labour laws.
  • Lead compliance projects and improve HR Operations workflows, including the adoption of AI-related initiatives.

Requirements

  • Based in Alberta or British Columbia, Canada.
  • BS/BA degree or higher in Human Resources, International Business, Accounting, Law, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of HR experience, preferably as an HR Specialist, HR Generalist, or HR Business Partner.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian employment laws and in-country regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple tasks, and solve complex problems in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills, international collaboration experience, and proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, and AI tools.
