Location: Must be based in Los Angeles, New York, Palo Alto, San Francisco, or Seattle (Hybrid: 4+ days per week in office)

What you will do

• Manage and mentor a team of backend engineers in a fast-paced, quick-to-market environment.
• Set strategy, build roadmaps, and define measurable goals for the Maps team.
• Collaborate with Product, Operation, Data Science, and executive stakeholders.
• Evaluate technical tradeoffs for major architectural decisions and provide technical mentorship.
• Hire, grow, and retain high-performing team members.
• Utilize AI tools to design and ship scalable services while ensuring code correctness and security.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical work experience.
• 9+ years of software development experience (or 8+ with Master's, 5+ with PhD).
• 1+ years of experience managing a team or acting as a technical lead.
• Experience with distributed systems and backend service development.
• Knowledge of geospatial or location-based systems (map data pipelines, POI, routing, or spatial indexing).
• Ability to lead and execute large, complex technical initiatives from ideation to completion.
