What you will do
- Develop embedded C firmware for PAM4 optical DSPs and implement control, diagnostics, error handling, and debug functionality.
- Build Python scripts for test automation, hardware configuration, data collection, diagnostics, and customer prototype performance analysis.
- Design temperature-tracking and closed- or open-loop control algorithms to improve device performance and stability.
- Implement bare-metal firmware routines, finite-state-machine coordination, multi-core optimization, and UART-based debug tracing.
- Own features through design, code review, implementation, testing, regression, and customer release.
- Debug complex hardware/software issues, identify root causes with cross-functional teams, and drive defect resolution.
Requirements
- BS or MS degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Professional software development experience in embedded C/C++ environments and experience with Python.
- Strong debugging, problem-solving, data collection, and analysis skills.
- Understanding of microcontroller architecture, networking fundamentals from the OSI model, and PHY through data-link-layer concepts.
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English and Italian.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with remote teams and motivation to learn complex optical communications and DSP technologies.
Nice to have
- Knowledge of ARM or RISC-V architectures, processor memory and peripheral interaction, and digital signal processing.
- Understanding of equalizers, filters, ADC, DAC, FFE, DFE, PLL, and PAM modulation.
- Experience with Jira, GitLab, Jenkins, regression testing, Linux, makefiles, gdb, IDEs, and bash.
- Familiarity with telecommunications fundamentals and closed- or open-loop control algorithms.
