What you will do

• Design, build, test, deploy, and maintain Spring Boot microservices from development through production.
• Implement publish/subscribe messaging, distributed transactions, and saga or orchestration patterns.
• Design and consume REST APIs, webhooks, and subscription APIs while contributing to API contracts and versioning.
• Build CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code for cloud-native services running on AWS.
• Diagnose distributed-service issues using logging, tracing, metrics, and observability tools such as New Relic, Datadog, and OpenTelemetry.
• Integrate LLMs and agentic workflows using tool calling, structured outputs, and the Model Context Protocol with appropriate safety and governance controls.

Requirements

• Senior-level backend engineering experience with 8+ years building Java services and 2+ years working with microservices and event-driven systems.
• Advanced Java expertise, including object-oriented programming and concurrency, plus production experience with Spring Boot and Spring Cloud.
• Production experience with AWS services including DynamoDB, Kinesis, SQS, SNS, KMS, API Gateway, ECS/EKS, Lambda, IAM, and RDS.
• Fluency with AI-assisted development tools and the ability to critically review AI-generated code.
• Experience with JUnit, Mockito, and integration testing.
• Must be located in the Miami / Fort Lauderdale area and available for 100% on-site contract work.

Nice to have

• Financial services or payments experience, including ISO 20022 and FAIM/Fedwire messaging.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK.
• Experience with Temporal, Camunda, or AWS Step Functions.
• Advanced AI experience with vector stores, RAG, prompt engineering, or AI observability.
