Employment Counsel

TL;DR

Employment Counsel (Spanish Employment Law): Providing legal advice on employee relations, employment contracts, workplace disputes, works councils, and union representation with an accent on complex Spanish employment law and cross-border compliance. Location: Hybrid role based in Barcelona, Spain, with collaboration across EMEA and other regions and the ability to work across time zones.

What you will do

• Advise on employment law matters, including grievances, dismissals, contracts, benefits, conduct, and remuneration.
• Partner with the People and Culture team, local management, and business leaders on employee relations, workplace risks, and complex employment issues.
• Advise on works councils, employee representatives, and union representation, including consultation, negotiation, and collective bargaining.
• Manage employment litigation and disputes alongside the People and Culture team.
• Monitor regional employment law developments and update policies, practices, and compliance initiatives.
• Support cross-border employment law projects and provide commercially balanced risk advice.

Requirements

• Law degree and admission to practice in at least Spain.
• Extensive experience as a qualified employment lawyer in a top-tier law firm or multinational in-house legal department.
• Proven experience advising on complex Spanish employment law, including works councils, employee representatives, union representation, consultation, and negotiation.
• Fluent English and Spanish with excellent written and oral communication skills in both languages.
• Strong analytical, pragmatic, relationship management, and stakeholder collaboration skills.
• Experience working with AI technologies and across time zones; comfort working in a fast-paced scale-up environment.
