Staff Robotics Engineer (Medical Robotics)

Salary: $150,000–$190,000 per year, plus bonus

What you will do

• Lead system-level integration of a 7-DOF robotic arm into a surgical imaging platform.
• Define robot kinematics, coordinate frames, calibration strategies, motion constraints, and robot–camera–patient geometry.
• Design interfaces between robot control, vision systems, higher-level application software, UI, and safety layers.
• Develop and review position, velocity, and admittance motion-control strategies with deterministic behavior, fault handling, and graceful degradation.
• Design medical-grade robotics systems with risk analysis, interlocks, limits, and redundancy.
• Serve as the robotics technical authority, collaborate across engineering, clinical, quality, regulatory, and product teams, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Control Systems, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering; an M.S. or Ph.D. may also be applicable.
• 14+ years of robotics engineering experience with direct ownership of complex robotic systems in human–robot interaction applications.
• Hands-on experience integrating multi-DOF robotic arms with 6 or more degrees of freedom, preferably in constrained or human-adjacent environments.
• Strong knowledge of robot kinematics and dynamics, coordinate transformations, calibration, control systems, and real-time software.
• Proficiency in C++ and Python, plus familiarity with ROS/ROS2 and real-time Linux.
• Experience with medical devices, surgical robotics, safety-critical systems, computer vision or imaging integration, and taking robotics products from prototype to production.

• Experience in technical leadership within small-to-mid-sized teams.
• Experience influencing build-versus-buy decisions for robotics components and subsystems.
