Location: Fully onsite at the Irvine, CA office, United States

Salary: $100,000–$200,000 per year, plus benefits and equity.

What you will do

  • Design, implement, maintain, and improve perception systems for autonomous robots in unstructured and off-road environments.
  • Develop localization, mapping, SLAM, state estimation, and multi-sensor fusion capabilities.
  • Integrate LiDAR, cameras, RADAR, inertial sensors, and new sensing modalities across robotic platforms.
  • Deploy perception algorithms on physical robots and debug issues during on-robot testing and field operations.
  • Develop performance metrics, tests, regression monitoring, and tools to improve system robustness and scalability.
  • Collaborate with autonomy, controls, platform, research, and operations teams to deliver production-ready systems and support customer demonstrations.

Requirements

  • PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; or an MS with 2+ years of industry or applied research experience; or a BS with 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong experience with robot perception, localization, mapping, SLAM, state estimation, and sensor fusion for real-world robotic systems.
  • Hands-on experience developing and deploying perception software in field robotics environments, beyond simulation.
  • Proficiency in C++, Python, and ROS/ROS2-based systems.
  • Ability to work close to hardware, including sensor-data debugging, calibration, and troubleshooting real-world failures.
  • Ability to work fully onsite from the Irvine, CA office.

Nice to have

  • Experience with thermal, LWIR, or multispectral sensing and custom sensor-rig integration and calibration.
  • Experience with CI/CD, performance regression testing, and perception benchmarking.
  • Experience aligning perception stacks across multiple platforms or product lines.
  • Leadership in research, field operations, or mentoring junior engineers and researchers.
  • Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, and modern DevOps practices.
