Manager, Mission Systems Software (Aerospace)

Location: San Diego, California, United States; work in an office and production environment is required. Occasional travel within the continental U.S. may be required.

Salary: $141,000–$215,000 per year

What you will do

• Lead and develop a large, multi-site software engineering organization, including staffing, budgeting, training, performance management, and career development.
• Scale the team through rapid growth and build a pipeline of senior contributors and technical leads.
• Shape the mission systems software roadmap for vision-based navigation, autonomy, cooperative behaviors, and onboard flight software.
• Plan and coordinate software development across multiple programs, including scope, schedules, resources, and release planning in an Agile environment.
• Champion software quality through design reviews, requirements-based testing, code coverage, disciplined branching, and release practices.
• Coordinate with systems engineering, GNC, hardware, test, and program teams on integration and flight-test milestones.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent education, training, and experience.
• 12+ years of software engineering experience, including embedded, robotics, or mission systems software development.
• At least 4+ years in a management or technical leadership role, including leadership of a software team of 15 or more engineers.
• Experience delivering flight-critical or mission-critical software through requirements, integration, testing, and deployment.
• Experience with Git or GitLab, CI pipelines, containerization, modern development tooling, and Linux environments.
• Must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or protected individual with qualifying refugee or asylee status; the position is subject to ITAR/EAR requirements.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree and experience with UAS, drones, robotics, autonomous systems, or aerospace and defense platforms.
• Knowledge of computer vision, machine learning, autonomy, GNC, real-time flight software, or robotics software frameworks.
• Familiarity with MOSA, FACE, DO-178, open systems, airworthiness standards, or controlled and cleared environments.
• Experience leading distributed or multi-site teams in a defense technology or fast-paced product environment.
