What you will do

• Underwrite and process assigned renewal policies independently, gathering and evaluating risk exposure and making proactive recommendations to improve risk profitability.
• Apply knowledge of coverage forms, rating plans, and underwriting guidelines to ensure accurate classification and adequate pricing.
• Quote, accept, decline, modify, and renew risks within territorial assignment in line with underwriting authority and guidelines.
• Respond to agents’ inquiries, communicate underwriting decisions and appetite to internal and external customers, and support service quality expectations.
• Conduct continuous profit and growth analysis by territory and agency, monitor premium retention using electronic reporting tools, and increase renewal premium via cross-selling.
• Train and develop less experienced underwriters and participate in or lead projects and process improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Minimum 7 years of commercial underwriting experience.
• Valid state-issued driver’s license in good standing and ability to drive an automobile for company travel within the territory (car travel represents less than 5% of time).
• Highly proficient written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong underwriting technical skills and broad knowledge of company products and underwriting guidelines.
• Ability to solve problems and make sound decisions using data, even with imperfect information.
• Ability to coach and mentor and to manage strategic thinking with attention to detail.
