Head of Engineering

TL;DR

Head of Engineering (AI/Cloud Native): Lead venture engineering teams to scope, design, build, and launch software products and Proof-of-Concepts with an accent on technical architecture, delivery at MVP scale, and accelerating engineering workflows using AI tools. Focus on recruiting and mentoring engineering leads, ensuring technical feasibility and scalable cloud-native services, and applying agile/continuous delivery practices in fast-moving startup environments.

What you will do

• Lead venture engineering teams (2–4 teams of 5 engineers) to solve real-world business problems.
• Own technical design and delivery: validate feasibility, create initial architecture, and build Proof-of-Concept products that scale into functional MVPs.
• Recruit, mentor, and manage engineering leads; act as player/coach and step into the code/architecture when needed.
• Use AI tools to accelerate speed and quality of software delivery, and contribute to internal AI tools for acceleration and IP expansion.
• Ensure best practices across testability, maintainability, security, and scalability; build cloud-native, distributed services.
• Collaborate with product leads and peers across labs; cross-pollinate learnings to continuously improve engineering execution.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in engineering leadership developing technical teams.
• Experience building startup ventures and working effectively in ambiguous, fast-paced environments.
• Hands-on, end-to-end product build and delivery experience across customer interfaces (web/mobile) and multiple technologies.
• Experience with agile/lean and continuous delivery approaches (e.g., scrum, continuous integration, TDD, infrastructure as code).
• Experience building cloud-native software architectures and scalable distributed services.
• Experience managing remote, distributed teams including full-time engineers and vendors/contractors.

Nice to have

• Experience working with data science and machine learning engineers to build frontier technology solutions.
• Domain expertise in trucking, freight, or logistics.
