Quality NVH Engineer (Electric Motors)

What you will do

• Analyze field and warranty return motors using DTC codes and vehicle data to establish failure hypotheses.
• Perform initial diagnostics including visual inspections, electrical measurements, and insulation checks.
• Conduct detailed teardown analysis of Drive Units to inspect rotors, stators, bearings, and cooling paths.
• Perform root cause analysis for issues such as winding shorts, insulation breakdown, and abnormal noise or vibration.
• Coordinate NVH testing with external labs and suppliers and interpret resulting data.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations for customers and internal stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in quality engineering, field failure analysis, or electric powertrains.
• Knowledge of automotive motor structure and failure modes (stators, rotors, magnets, bearings, etc.).
• Proficiency in quality problem-solving tools (RCA, 5 Why, Fishbone, 8D, DOE).
• Ability to travel up to 25% to customers, plants, and suppliers.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand or stoop for extended periods.

Nice to have

• Master's Degree in a related technical field.
• Direct experience with EV, HEV, or PHEV powertrain applications.
• Hands-on experience with dynamometers, vibration analyzers, and data acquisition systems.
• Strong understanding of automotive quality systems (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC, MSA).
