VP of Engineering (SaaS)

Location: Remote within the United States and Canada

Salary: $225,000–$300,000 USD annually, varying by U.S. geographic market, experience, knowledge, and skills.

What you will do

• Own the engineering organization, technical delivery, engineering KPIs, and operational execution.
• Lead engineering pods and partner with Product, executive leadership, Sales, Customer Success, Legal, Finance, and People.
• Deliver the second version of the API-first surface: a standardized REST toolkit for agents in the Shopify ecosystem.
• Establish reliable release, QA, automated testing, incident response, observability, and compliance processes.
• Define the technical strategy, architecture direction, platform investments, build-versus-buy decisions, and multi-quarter engineering roadmap.
• Build and scale high-performing engineering teams through hiring, leveling frameworks, mentorship, career ladders, and performance calibration.

Requirements

• 15+ years of engineering leadership experience, including leadership of 30–50+ person engineering organizations.
• Experience scaling SaaS platforms in ecommerce, martech, or developer tools, with a focus on reliability, scalability, and operational excellence.
• Deep expertise in software architecture, distributed systems, APIs, cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, and large-scale data and databases.
• Experience building API-first products and developer platforms with REST and OpenAPI standards.
• Strong understanding of modern development practices, CI/CD, DevOps, observability, incident management, and engineering operations.
• Experience with application, platform, database, and cloud performance optimization; PHP, Node, React, and the Shopify ecosystem are helpful.
