AI Engineer Intern (AI)

TL;DR

AI Engineer Intern (AI/ML): Developing large-scale AI and agentic systems from data pipelines to production deployment with an accent on model validation and inference API construction. Focus on running large-scale experiments, implementing AIOps practices, and optimizing models via quantization and distillation.

Location: Berkeley, California, United States. In-office 5 days a week

What you will do

• Translate product requirements into scoped AI problem statements in collaboration with PMs and designers.
• Build and validate AI models using PyTorch or JAX and design data pipelines.
• Run large-scale experiments, evaluate models against metrics, and support ablation studies.
• Develop inference APIs and batch scoring workflows to integrate AI outputs with backend services.
• Support AIOps practices including model versioning, CI/CD pipelines, and monitoring dashboards.
• Contribute to root-cause analysis of production issues and document design decisions and runbooks.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field.
• Hands-on experience with ML systems through course projects, research, hackathons, or prior internships.
• Solid fundamentals in Python and Rust, including data structures and testing.
• Exposure to AI/ML frameworks (PyTorch or JAX) and data tooling (Pandas, SQL).
• Must be based in or able to work from the Berkeley, CA office 5 days a week.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Experience with Docker.
• Knowledge of model-serving tools such as vLLM, Triton, or Ray Serve.
