CG Matte Painter (Animation)

CG Matte Painter (Maya/Nuke): Creating high-quality matte paintings and visuals for CG animation projects with an accent on stylized cartoon aesthetics and 2.5D environments. Location: Must be based in British Columbia, Canada. Remote work is available within BC; hybrid or in-studio options are available for those in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.

Salary: $1,500 - $1,800 CAD weekly

What you will do

• Create matte paintings for elements and visuals that match the specific look of the production.
• Collaborate closely with layout, modeling, lighting, compositing, and design teams.
• Work with the Art Director and Modeling/Texturing Supervisors to establish the aesthetic vision.
• Implement revisions based on feedback from the Art Director and clients.
• Ensure all assigned deadlines are met according to production management.

Requirements

• Industry experience in CG or Visual Effects as a Matte Painter.
• Proficiency in Nuke, Maya, and Photoshop.
• Strong understanding of 2D lighting, compositing, and matte painting techniques.
• Knowledge of renderers such as Renderman, Vray, and Arnold.
• Currently legally eligible to work in Canada.
• Must have resided within British Columbia as of December 31, 2025.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of Katana and Houdini.
• Experience with 2.5D projections and asset-modeling (including UVs).
• Previous experience using Autodesk Flow Production Tracking (Shotgrid).
