Data Scientist

TL;DR

Data Scientist (SQL/Python): Provide expertise to support linkage, distribution, and documentation of federal and non-federal data, including federally-funded research, with an accent on data provenance, data mapping, and healthcare data linkage methodologies. Focus on building and maintaining end-to-end data pipelines and ETL workflows, applying data validation/cleansing and masking, and delivering data linkage products with clear communication to technical and non-technical audiences.

Salary: $77,600.00–$176,000.00 (annualized USD)

What you will do

• Support linkage, distribution, and documentation of federal and non-federal data, including federally-funded research.
• Document data provenance, perform data mapping across datasets, and provide linkage technical support.
• Design and optimize end-to-end data pipelines for ingesting, processing, and transforming large volumes of data.
• Build and maintain ETL workflows with monitoring, troubleshooting, and timely issue resolution.
• Apply data validation, cleansing, enrichment, and data masking; support multi-way linkage and reporting study linkage.
• Design and maintain data models, schemas, and database structures; integrate internal/external data sources and APIs.

Requirements

• Public Trust or Suitability/Fitness determination ability based on client requirements.
• 3+ years of experience with cloud-based data management for health data using SQL and Python, including Databricks or Snowflake and big data tools/frameworks such as Spark.
• Experience designing, implementing, and optimizing end-to-end data pipelines for large-scale data ingestion, processing, and transformation.
• Experience designing and developing ETL workflows, including monitoring and troubleshooting ETL processes.
• Experience with data validation, cleansing, and enrichment to improve data accuracy and completeness.
• Experience applying data linkage methodologies to healthcare datasets and knowledge of healthcare data sources (e.g., PECOS, MBSF, SAF, PDE).

Nice to have

• 5+ years of cloud-based health data management experience with SQL and Python (Databricks/Snowflake, Spark).
• Experience administering role-based access controls and applying data masking.
• Experience with federal health data privacy and security policies.
• Experience analyzing health insurance claims data in CCW, IDR, or CDR; experience working with a Health agency.
• Master’s degree preferred; experience with Agile engineering practices.
