What you will do

• Execute mechanical, electrical, and environmental test procedures for robotic hardware verification.
• Operate precision equipment including load cells, environmental chambers, oscilloscopes, and calipers.
• Perform root cause analysis (RCA) by tearing down failed hardware and documenting failure modes.
• Assemble robot prototypes from engineering drawings, including mechanical sub-assembly and cable routing.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to flag assembly issues and escalate testing anomalies.
• Maintain and calibrate laboratory test equipment and keep the facility organized.

Requirements

• Hands-on mechanical assembly experience from a shop, lab, manufacturing, or military background.
• Proficiency in operating precision measurement tools (multimeters, calipers, force gauges, etc.).
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and work instructions.
• Must be based in or be able to work on-site in Pittsburgh.
• Disciplined approach to data collection, record-keeping, and technical documentation.
• Collaborative mindset and self-motivation to tackle new challenges.

Nice to have

• Experience with environmental or accelerated life testing (vibration tables, humidity chambers).
• Soldering, cable assembly, or PCB rework experience.
• Familiarity with structured problem-solving methods (e.g., 5-Why, fishbone).
• IPC 610/620 or IPC J-STD certifications.
• Basic scripting or programming skills for test data automation.
• Experience with CAD or 3D printing.
